Despite coming up with the idea for my online business and getting all the suppliers in place quite quickly, I struggled for a long time to get my website designed, built and operational. I bought software packages that were supposed to enable people who were computer literate but had no web design experience to make their own website but found it very difficult to use and almost abandoned the idea for my online store. There are lots of websites out there that will help you build your own site, but not many also let you add on a shopping cart and everything else needed to sell online. Other shop design sites were not only quite expensive to set-up but were also very rigid, so all the shops that used that particular package looked alike. I then discovered Webkeeper and signed up for their free trial. Within about half a day, I had designed my home page and added my first product range, including images to my new site. The software is very flexible so you can pretty much make your site look exactly how you want it to and you can keep changing it so your site can evolve as new ideas and products develop. The PayPal checkout option meant that I could open for business quickly to see if it was viable without the expense of a merchant account, and once we had grown enough, the transition to our new merchant service was very easy indeed. We have raised several questions and queries with Webkeeper, some sensible and some due to our own stupidity, and each one has been answered promptly, patiently and very clearly.
